UAE panel reviews measures taken to check H1N1 virus

Dr Hanif Hassan, Minister of Health, chaired the meeting of Higher Supervisory Committee on combating H1N1 virus on 13th July, 2009.

The meeting took stock of preventive and educational measures taken by the health authorities in the country and reviewed a health awareness plan for the upcoming Haj and Umrah pilgrimages to be launched in coordination with the General Authority for Islamic Affairs and Endowment and other similar campaigns targeting schools, universities and colleges.
Health officials told the committee that all the 47 reported cases in the UAE had been fully treated and discharged from hospitals with 20 new patients making a full recovery.
The committee instructed the health ministry to publish an update on the virus every Monday and to push ahead with initiatives to spread awareness about the disease.

The minister also toured an exhibition organised at the Marina Mall Abu Dhabi by the ministry in association with the health authorities in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

The event aims to raise public awareness about preventive and curative approaches to the disease.
